Both networks connect through a Facebook sign-in. You will need:
- A Facebook Page for your practice, and a Facebook account that has a role on that Page. A personal profile alone cannot be posted to.
- For Instagram, an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator) that is linked to that Facebook Page. A personal Instagram account cannot be connected. You link the two in Instagram under Settings, Business tools and controls, Connect a Facebook Page, or from the Page's settings on Facebook.
If your Page is owned by a business portfolio (Meta Business Suite), sign in with an account that has access to that portfolio. The consent screen will include a step to choose the business.
Connect
- Open Social settings and go to Accounts.
- Choose Add an account, then Instagram or Facebook.
- Sign in to Facebook, choose the business if asked, then choose the Page (and the Instagram account) you want Stillpoint to post to.
- Grant every permission on the consent screen. Stillpoint asks only for what publishing needs: to see your Pages, to publish to the Page you pick, to read the Page's engagement, to see the Instagram account linked to it, and to publish there.
Back in Stillpoint the account shows as Working, with when it was last checked. Stillpoint checks each connection regularly and emails you if one stops working.
If it fails
The message you see in Stillpoint tells you what happened. The usual ones:
- That account does not administer any Facebook Page. The Facebook account you signed in with has no role on a Page. Sign in with the account that manages the Page, or ask the Page's admin to add you.
- That Facebook Page has no Instagram professional account linked to it. Link them in Instagram's settings, then try again. Only the linked account can be connected.
- We could not get permission to post to that Page. A permission was unticked on the consent screen. Connect again and leave every permission on.
- That connection link expired. Start again from the Accounts section.
- Connection cancelled. Nothing changed. You closed the Facebook window. Nothing was saved. Try again when you are ready.
- We could not confirm your plan just now. A short-lived problem on our side. Try connecting again in a moment.
Reconnect
A connection can stop working when a Facebook sign-in expires, when access is removed on the network, or after a Page's admins change. The account then shows Needs reconnecting or Needs attention with one of these:
- The sign-in expired. Reconnect to keep posting.
- Access was removed on the network. Reconnect to restore it.
- The last post to this account failed. Reconnect if it keeps happening.
Choose Add an account, pick the same network, and go through the same steps as connecting. The existing account is updated rather than duplicated, and scheduled posts pick up again once it is working.
Disconnect
Choose Disconnect next to an account in Accounts. Posts still waiting to go to that account are cancelled. A post that has already reached the network stays published there. To remove Stillpoint's access on the Meta side as well, open Facebook's Settings, Business integrations and remove Stillpoint.
