AI Note Expansion turns a quick summary of what happened in a session into a fully structured clinical note. You bring the raw observations, the AI organizes them into the SOAP/DAP/progress format you've chosen.
Available on Solo and above when clinical notes are enabled.
How to use it
- Open a client's profile and go to the Notes tab.
- Click New Note and pick a template (SOAP, DAP, or progress note).
- In the Quick Notes field, jot down what happened. A few sentences or bullets is enough.
- Click Expand with AI.
- The AI generates a structured note across the template's sections.
- Review, edit anywhere it needs adjustment, and click Save.
What the AI will and won't do
The AI structures and expands what you provide. It doesn't invent clinical details. If you didn't mention a symptom, it won't appear in the expanded note. If you mentioned it briefly, the AI may organize it into the right section and write a more polished sentence around it.
You're always in control of the final note. The AI's output is a starting draft, never the saved version.
When to use this vs. AI Scribe
- AI Note Expansion is for after the session, when you have a few thoughts in your head and want them shaped into a note quickly.
- AI Scribe records the session itself and generates the note from the transcript. Use it when you want a richer note without writing anything by hand. See AI Scribe.
Tips
- The more specific your quick notes, the better the expansion. "Worked on shoulder mobility" is fine; "Worked on right shoulder mobility, ROM improved 10 degrees, mild discomfort at end-range" is better.
- Use consistent terminology so the model's output stays predictable across sessions.
- Always review the expanded note before saving. AI is a tool, not a replacement for clinical judgment.
